Iran and Israel: What's Happening in the Middle East?

Yesterday, Iran launched a bunch of missiles at Israel. This isn't just a small fight; it's between two countries that have been enemies for a long time. It's all because Israel recently fought against Iran-supported Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, and now Iran is retaliating. Iran is one of the biggest oil producers in the world, so this conflict has people worried about the global oil supply. Because of these tensions, oil prices have jumped up - Brent crude is at $74 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate is at $70.

If things get worse or other big countries like the U.S. get involved, it could really mess up the oil supply. Iran makes almost 4% of all the oil in the world, so that's a lot. But people are also looking at Saudi Arabia, which is the top oil exporter and kind of leads the OPEC+ group. If Iran can't send its oil, maybe Saudi Arabia will fill in when they have their meeting this week. Even though there are these big worries about what's happening in the Middle East, some numbers from the U.S. show that things aren't as bad as they seem. Sure, crude oil and distillate stockpiles went down last week, but gasoline inventories actually went up. That means people might not be buying as much even though prices are going up. Right now, everyone is more concerned about what's happening in the Middle East than what's going on with oil supply and demand at home.
