Incinerators: A Surprising Weapon Against Greenhouse Gases

Researchers decided to take a closer look at two incinerators in Qingdao. They found that Plant A released 56. 55 kilograms of CO2-equivalent per ton of MSW, while Plant B was a bit higher at 96. 73 kilograms. So, what's the catch? The type of waste matters a lot. Recyclables and food waste play a big role in those emissions.

You'd think that better recycling would mean fewer emissions, right? Well, not always. Sometimes, improving recycling efficiency doesn't lower the carbon footprint of what's left for incineration.
