IL-7R's Role in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: A Deep Dive
Tuesday, November 26, 2024
By looking at three different datasets, they discovered a total of 4087 genes that behaved differently in AAA tissues. Among these, IL-7R's presence was particularly notable. Single-cell RNA sequencing showed that CD4+ memory cells within AAA tissues had increased IL-7R expression. To confirm these findings, scientists used immunofluorescence staining and found that CD4+ T cells in AAA tissues also had higher IL-7R levels.
In lab experiments, activating IL-7R led to increased activity in the JAK/STAT pathway and changes in smooth muscle cells (SMCs). When IL-7R was inhibited, these effects were reversed, and the production of IFN-γ was reduced. This suggests that IL-7R in CD4+ T cells might be a key factor in the development of AAA by promoting IFN-γ secretion through the JAK/STAT pathway and causing SMCs to switch their behavior.
