Emmett Hughes, a Huntington native, is all set to take the stage with his band at the Long Island Music And Entertainment Hall Of Fame on April 13.  This is a big deal for him.  The performance will take place at 97 Main St. , Stony Brook, starting at 3 p. m.  The event is open to the public, with free admission included in the Hall of Fame's general entry fee.  Tickets can be bought ahead of time online.

Hughes has put together a 15-song setlist of his original work.  However, he might need to cut a few songs to fit the one-hour time slot.  He will be performing tracks from his two albums, "Sixty Trips Around the Sun, " released in 2019, and "The Third Degree, " which came out this March.  Both albums are available on various streaming platforms, though his latest release is still waiting to appear on Apple Music.

Hughes's music is a blend of different styles, including reggae, indie rock, funk, soul, and blues.  He has a unique sound that sets him apart.  One of his songs is a symphonic piece featuring strings, classical guitar, oboe, and clarinet.  This is not your typical reggae or indie rock song.  He is thrilled to be performing at the Hall of Fame for the first time.  He had previously attended a friend's performance there, which sparked his interest in playing at the venue.

Hughes draws inspiration from a wide range of artists, such as Bob Marley, Talking Heads, David Bowie, Pat Metheny, Crowded House, Joe Jackson, and Frank Zappa.  He also has a soft spot for classical music.  His songs often revolve around his personal relationships, whether with friends, his husband, his daughter, or society in general.  He is a man of many talents, working as a chiropractic physician, gardener, and intrepid sailor.  He also has a powerful tennis serve.  Although he doesn't usually write about his hobbies, he plans to pen a song about a memorable sailing trip to Block Island.  The experience was breathtaking, with the sun rising over the Long Island Sound and no other boats in sight.

Hughes and his fellow singer, Laura Press, have been making music together since they were in seventh grade.  That's over 50 years of friendship and collaboration.  Their journey together is a testament to their shared passion for music and their enduring bond.  It is clear that Hughes is not just a musician but also a storyteller, weaving his personal experiences into his songs.  His upcoming performance at the Hall of Fame is a chance for fans to witness his unique blend of styles and hear his compelling narratives.
