Hunter Biden, the president's son, is facing a tax evasion trial in Los Angeles. He's accused of failing to pay over $1.4 million in taxes while living what prosecutors call an 'extravagant lifestyle'.  

The indictment details over $7 million in income from foreign business dealings between 2016 and 2019.  During that time, Biden allegedly spent nearly $5 million on a variety of things, including drugs, escorts, luxury items, and travel.  

Prosecutors argue that he had the means to pay his taxes, but chose not to.  However, Biden's lawyers are trying to deflect attention from his spending habits and focus on his struggles with addiction.  They've even requested that the court exclude any mention of his 'extravagant lifestyle' from the trial.

The judge has now barred the defense from arguing that a tragic car accident that killed Biden's sister and mother, along with his brother's death from brain cancer, contributed to his addiction.  

The trial is expected to be closely watched, with both sides presenting compelling arguments and raising important questions about personal responsibility, addiction, and and the justice system.
