How European Farmers Think We Should Boost Calf Health

Imagine asking more than 3, 000 people from Finland, France, Ireland, and Poland how to improve calf health. Four methods were discussed: using colostrum, giving calves probiotic powder or yogurt, and increasing the time calves spend with their mothers. Some participants also received details like costs and environmental impacts. When rating their preferences on a scale of 1 to 5, the study found that people favored longer cow-calf contact the most. Surprisingly, women were more open to this idea.

The opinions changed based on the person's farming knowledge and understanding of microbiomes, as well as whether they had extra information.
