House Vote Halts Trump’s Iran War Push

Washington, USAFriday, May 15, 2026

The U.S. House of Representatives tied a bill that would have prevented President Trump from engaging in military action against Iran unless Congress approved it. The vote ended 212‑to‑212, falling short of the majority required for passage.

This marked the third attempt this year to limit the president’s military options in Iran. The previous effort on April 16 was lost by a single vote when a member recorded “present.”

With the Republican Party holding only a slim majority in the House, any legislation opposing the president’s war plans faces significant hurdles. The Senate experienced a similarly tight outcome when a resolution was blocked 50‑49, as three Republicans joined most Democrats in support of the measure.

The push to restrain the war reflects growing concerns that President Trump’s campaign could expand without adequate congressional oversight. Although the bill failed, the narrow margins suggest that future votes may still swing either way.
