Hospital Attack in Sudan: The Fight for Darfur
North Darfur, El Fasher, SudanMonday, January 27, 2025
The hospital attack is not an isolated incident. Last month, a market in Kabkabiya was bombed, killing over 100 people. Both sides in the conflict accuse each other of carrying out drone attacks on civilian areas.
The governor of Darfur, Mini Minnawi, and Sudan's foreign ministry blamed the RSF for the hospital attack. This is a significant incident as El Fasher is one of the last major towns in Darfur not controlled by the RSF. The hospital was a crucial place for medical care, and its loss will make life even harder for those in the region.
The World Health Organization's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for the warring parties to stop fighting and leave healthcare facilities alone. He stressed that peace is the best medicine for Sudan's people.
