Every August, Lee County pays tribute to the courageous souls who fought in World War II. This year, the 8th Annual WWII Veterans Appreciation Dinner shifts to August 9th at Kelly Greens in Fort Myers—a night of remembrance, gratitude, and unbreakable bonds.
From Humble Beginnings to a Legacy at Risk
What started as a small gathering has blossomed into a heartfelt tradition. Yet, its future hangs in the balance—dependent on turnout, generosity, and the will to preserve history. The organizer had planned to conclude after this year, but the 80th anniversary of WWII’s end in 2025 reignited their mission.
Time is running out. Most surviving veterans are now in their late 90s or beyond, their numbers dwindling with each passing day. This dinner isn’t just a meal—it’s a lifeline to ensure their stories endure. Families who’ve attended speak of its profound impact, many wishing they’d discovered it sooner.
More Than a Dinner: A Ceremony of Honor
This isn’t just any event. The evening unfolds with military traditions:

Admission is free for veterans and their spouses. For others, tickets are $45, with sponsorships keeping the spirit alive. Businesses and individuals can even sponsor a veteran’s meal, turning generosity into legacy.
