Heat Wave Hits Massachusetts, Temperatures Feel Like 110 Degrees

Massachusetts, USAMonday, June 29, 2026
Massachusetts is bracing for a blistering week as the National Weather Service warns that heat indexes could reach 110 degrees. The entire state, except for Berkshire County and the Cape & Islands, will be under an extreme heat watch from Wednesday morning until Friday evening. A heat dome will keep the region sweltering for three days, with daytime highs climbing into the upper 90s. Humidity will make it feel hotter—between 105 and 110 degrees—so people might think they’re in a sauna even when the thermometer shows 90.
Nighttime temperatures will stay high, so there’s no relief after dark. Thursday and Friday promise even more heat. Highs could hit 98 to 103 degrees, and the humid air will push heat indexes above 105. The Connecticut and Merrimack River valleys stand the greatest risk of temperatures over 100 degrees. By Friday night, the heat dome should loosen, but storm chances rise. Officials urge residents to drink lots of water and stay in air‑coed rooms. Avoid the sun, check on friends and family, and never leave kids or pets in cars; interiors can reach deadly temperatures within minutes.
