Imagine a world where people come together to heal from traumatic experiences. This is what's happening in Rwanda, thanks to a unique model called Community-Based Social Healing (CBSH). Created by the Ubuntu Centre for Peace, this approach combines therapies that focus on breath, body, and mind, along with collective storytelling and rituals. These are led by local helpers, called Community Healing Assistants, in small groups.

In a past test run, around 1, 900 Rwandans took part, and the results were promising. People saw improvements in their mental health, with fewer cases of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Plus, they became more productive at work and saw a decrease in domestic violence.

The main goal of a current trial is to see how this model influences Ubuntu, a concept from African philosophy that highlights our shared humanity, kindness, and interconnectedness. The idea is that by healing together, we can strengthen our bonds and build a more caring community.

But let's think critically about this. While the model shows great promise, it's important to remember that mental health is complex and unique to each person. What works for one may not work for another. Also, we should consider the long-term effects of this approach and how it can be sustained in the future.
