Harris Aims to Empower Black Men with New Economic Plans
USA, DetroitMonday, October 14, 2024
The proposal also aims to create a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and digital assets, as well as a National Health Equity Initiative to tackle health issues that disproportionately affect Black men. Legalizing recreational marijuana and creating opportunities for Black Americans in the industry are also part of her plan. Harris has repeatedly expressed her belief that marijuana should be legalized in the US.
The campaign will be promoting this agenda through various events, including "Black Men Huddle Up" gatherings, an Economic Freedom Talk series, and paid media outreach. This is part of their strategy to contrast with former President Donald Trump's approach, which has been criticized as insulting and divisive.
"Donald Trump's outreach is more about flashy tactics and insults. The Vice President is focusing on what Black men can achieve under her leadership," said Michael Tyler, the campaign's communications director.
Harris has been trying to boost Black men's turnout even before she became the Democratic nominee. There is a concern that without active engagement, many Black and Hispanic men might not vote at all, which could be seen as a vote for her opponents.
This week, Harris is set to visit Detroit for a radio town hall hosted by Charlamagne tha God, a popular figure with a large Black audience.
