Google Maps Getting Smarter: Report Transit Delays and Plan Better Trips
Thursday, November 14, 2024
Here’s another neat feature: you can plan your trip on your phone, including stops at charging stations if you’re driving an electric vehicle. Just add your vehicle’s make and model, and Google Maps will show you compatible charging stations.
You can now search for specific items and find nearby stores that have them. This works for home goods, electronics, clothes, and even groceries. It’s similar to how you can search for dishes and find restaurants that serve them.
Google has also shared some handy tips for holiday travel. For Thanksgiving, they suggest avoiding the road on Tuesday and Wednesday and instead traveling on Sunday or Monday evening. The Friday before Thanksgiving is usually the busiest time. On Thanksgiving Day, try to avoid driving between 9 a. m. and 3 p. m.
For Black Friday, the roads are busiest between 11 a. m. and 2 p. m. And for Christmas, try to avoid driving between 1 p. m. and 4 p. m. in the days leading up to the 25th.
