Gaza Six Months After the Ceasefire: Promises Broken, Crisis Deepens

Six months after the October 2025 ceasefire, Gaza remains ensnared in a relentless cycle of unfulfilled pledges and deteriorating conditions. A leading human rights organization has exposed the stark gap between rhetoric and reality, revealing that President Trump’s "Board of Peace" has failed to deliver on its commitments.

Death Toll and Unmet Aid Promises

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks since the ceasefire have killed at least 856 people and injured 2,463 more. The rights group’s report dismantles the Board of Peace’s May claims that aid deliveries surged by over 70% and food shortages were resolved. Instead, aid has plummeted since early 2026, falling far below minimum UN requirements. Four UN agencies warned in late 2025 that famine could return without immediate, consistent supplies—yet Israel continues to block 90% of necessary aid, as reported in January 2026.

A Healthcare System on the Brink

Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure is collapsing under the strain. Only 19 out of 37 hospitals remain partially operational, while none are fully functional. With over 43,000 people suffering life-altering injuriesone in four of them children—the demand for long-term medical care has surged. Yet no rehabilitation centers are fully operational, and medical equipment shortages, coupled with delays in patient evacuations, have already claimed 1,400 lives since May 2024, all due to Israel’s control of the Rafah crossing.

Displacement Camps: A Breeding Ground for Disease

Life in Gaza’s displacement camps has become a public health nightmare. Fuel shortages, broken sanitation systems, and waste removal failures have turned camps into breeding grounds for rats, insects, and disease. Skin infections are spreading rapidly, and 590 aid workers have been killed since October 2023eight of them after the ceasefire.

Rebuilding Funds: Empty Promises and Delays

Financial pledges for Gaza’s reconstruction have also fallen short. At a February donor conference, 10 countries promised $17 billion, but less than $1 billion has been disbursed. Only three nations have honored their commitments, with the US even pressuring Saudi Arabia in April to release its funds. Yet on the ground, the suffering persists.

The cycle continues—hope deferred, lives lost, and promises broken.
