Free Bus Ride and Money Tips for Saginaw Riders

Saginaw, Michigan, USATuesday, July 14, 2026
On Wednesday, Aug. 13, people who use the Saginaw transit system can hop on a free bus ride while learning how to manage their money better. The event takes place at the STARS headquarters from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. and is organized by Money on the Move together with Dow Credit Union. The day celebrates National Financial Awareness Day. It focuses on helping people who work but still struggle with limited income, a group known as ALICE. Last year more than 400 riders joined, showing there is real interest in learning about budgeting and saving. Money on the Move blends transportation with practical lessons. Instead of a lecture hall, participants get hands‑on activities right where they are. The goal is to reach riders in a setting that feels comfortable and useful.
Dow Credit Union supplies reusable grocery bags. Inside, riders find brochures and flyers that explain local programs for food help, housing support, and other services that can improve financial stability. The bags are meant to be kept and used long after the event ends. Organizers want local groups—such as food banks, community centers, and social service agencies—to drop their flyers into the bags. They also ask these groups to spread the word about the event so more people can benefit. The STARS office is at 615 Johnson in downtown Saginaw. If you are a rider or know someone who might need a free bus ride and money advice, mark the date on your calendar.
