Fox's Fall 2025: Reality Takes the Lead

Fox is shaking things up for the fall of 2025. Monday nights, once the domain of big drama series like 24 and House, will now be all about reality shows. Name That Tune and Celebrity Weakest Link will take over, leaving Tuesday as the sole night for live-action scripted shows on the network. This shift is part of a broader trend in television, where reality and sports are increasingly taking center stage. The network's CEO has made it clear that Fox is all about delivering entertainment that is fun, irreverent, and emotionally engaging. This fall, viewers can expect a mix of new and returning shows that fit this bill. On Tuesday nights, Murder In a Small Town and Doc will continue to air, both of which have seen success in their previous seasons. These shows will stay in their original time slots, where they performed well last year. Fox has also picked up two new hour-long series for next season: Memory of a Killer and Best Medicine. These shows, however, won't be hitting the airwaves until midseason. Memory of a Killer is a thriller about a hitman dealing with early-onset Alzheimer's, while Best Medicine is a comedy based on the popular UK series Doc Martin. Both shows are straight-to-series orders, meaning they've been greenlit without the usual pilot process.

The network is also doubling down on reality programming. Shows like The Floor and 99 To Beat will be key players in Fox's fall lineup. The Floor, hosted by Rob Lowe, is a high-stakes game show that has been a ratings winner for the network. 99 To Beat, hosted by Ken Jeong and Erin Andrews, is a new game show where contestants compete in a series of challenges to avoid coming in last. The winner takes home a $100, 000 prize. Fox's Sunday animated lineup will remain largely the same, with The Simpsons, Universal Basic Guys, Krapopolis, and Bob’s Burgers all returning. The network is also bringing back American Dad! after an 11-year hiatus on TBS. This show, along with others like Family Guy and Grimsburg, will air in the midseason. The shift towards reality and sports programming is a strategic move by Fox. With scripted dramas taking up less than a third of the schedule on networks like NBC, it's clear that this is a trend that's here to stay. Fox's decision to focus on its strengths in reality and sports is a smart one, as these genres continue to draw in large audiences.
