Former FBI Deputy McCabe on Threats to Trump's Cabinet: No Surprise Here

Andrew McCabe, who used to be the deputy director of the FBI, didn't bat an eye when he heard about threats to President-elect Trump's Cabinet picks. "It's not shocking at all, " he said in an interview with CNN. McCabe explained that high-profile figures often face such threats. Law enforcement, he added, has dealt with this for years and can usually tell that most threats are empty. On the same day, four of Trump's incoming administration officials reported receiving bomb threats. There were also "swatting" incidents, where false emergencies are reported to trigger big police responses. Karoline Leavitt, Trump's transition spokesperson, confirmed these incidents on the social platform X.

McCabe pointed out that while these threats are usually hoaxes, law enforcement can't afford to ignore them. They've developed strategies to respond without sending out heavy armed forces. Local police often handle these situations, with the FBI stepping in to investigate the source of the threats. The FBI later confirmed they were looking into the incidents. A White House spokesperson also told The Hill that President Biden was briefed and the administration was monitoring the situation with federal law enforcement. Both teams condemned threats of political violence.
