Five Physics Equations That Shape Our World
Friday, January 24, 2025
Those arrows over the F and a in the equation show that these values are vectors. Vectors tell us not just how much, but also which direction. If someone asks you to move 1 meter, you could go east, west, or even 39 degrees north. Just like directions, both forces and acceleration have more information than just size. Other things, like mass or temperature, don't need direction. We call these scalar values.
Newton's Second Law is super handy, but many people get it wrong. A common mistake is thinking that a constant force makes an object move at a constant speed. Not true! This equation says that if you push an object steadily, it will keep speeding up.
