Fish Swimming: A Natural Way to Fight Pollution?
Wednesday, November 27, 2024
Researchers set up an experiment to see if swimming could help matrinxa fish deal with nitrite better. They had these fish swim continuously for three months. Once they were pros at swimming, the researchers added a safe amount of nitrite to their water and watched what happened.
The swimming fish were compared to lazy ones that barely moved. The swimming fish showed off some amazing skills! Their blood cells were more efficient, they could break down carbohydrates into energy better, they were quicker at getting rid of waste products, and they didn't need to use as many amino acids for energy. Pretty impressive, huh?
