Fenerbahce's Leader Faces Drug Probe
In a surprising turn of events, the head of Fenerbahce, a top Turkish sports club, was questioned as part of a drug investigation.
Sadettin Saran, who holds both Turkish and U.S. citizenship, was called in to provide his side of the story. He cooperated by submitting samples for testing.
A Large-Scale Investigation
This investigation is significant, having already led to the detention of over a dozen individuals since December. Those implicated include:
- TV personalities
- Journalists
- Singers
- Actors
- Social media influencers
They face serious charges such as drug trafficking and prostitution.
Saran's Role and Release
Saran, elected as Fenerbahce's chair in September, was specifically questioned about his alleged role in providing and facilitating the use of narcotics. After giving his statement and medical samples, he was released under certain conditions.
Fenerbahce's History of Controversies
Fenerbahce is no stranger to scandals. In 2012, the club's former president, Aziz Yildirim, spent over a year in jail on match-fixing charges. He was later acquitted when corruption in the case was exposed.
The club is also currently involved in another match-fixing investigation in Turkish soccer. It appears that Fenerbahce can't catch a break.
