Farmers' Knowledge and Financial Factors in Southeast Asia's One Health Efforts
Friday, December 13, 2024
Socioeconomic factors, like the amount of money a farmer makes and their social status, greatly influence their awareness of One Health. It's like a cycle. A farmer who understands One Health is more likely to adopt practices that benefit their animals and the environment. This, in turn, can lead to better financial outcomes.
Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam have different farming practices and traditions. The study explored these differences and found that cultural beliefs and local practices also shape how farmers perceive and adopt One Health principles. For example, in some areas, traditional practices might be favored over new ones, even if the new ones are better for health.
One Health is a great idea, but it's not easy to put into practice. Especially for farmers who might be struggling financially or lack education. The study suggests that efforts to promote One Health should consider these socioeconomic factors. Education and financial support could go a long way in helping farmers understand and adopt One Health principles.
