EV Charging Rolls to a Halt
Friday, February 7, 2025
The current administration is facing some heat here. Most of the states did not spend the money it was given under the NEVI. A memo also said that anyone could ask for money for a while to make sure they don't lose money.
The program has a problem. It did not get off to a smooth start. It only built seven charging stations with 38 ports, which is not nearly enough.
The biggest surprise just the fact that despite these decisions, the program actually made quite a bit of progress. In the last report, they said they had many new stations. The most recent update showed a total 126 ports across 31 stations in nine states.
But this program is in serious danger. The president has promised to stop funding for NEVI.
Elon Musk, who runs a business involving electric cars, is a supporter of Trump. Tesla made out like a bandit with 31 million dollars, funded by the NEVI. What a deal!
The main question is whether or not this is even legal. Trump has threatened to cut off money for the federal government and has been forced to rethink it. Whatever we are in for a hurricane, i. e. legislative.
