Elon Musk's Big Bet on Trump's Comeback

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has made a significant financial move in the political arena. He has given around $75 million to America PAC, a super PAC he established to back former President Donald Trump's bid to return to the White House. This contribution places Musk among the top Republican donors this year. The super PAC, focused on boosting voter turnout in key states like Pennsylvania, is now heavily funded thanks to Musk's contributions. He donated $14.95 million in July, $30 million in August, and another $30 million in September. Musk, who is currently the wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $241 billion, has been a subject of speculation regarding his political contributions. His support for Trump has been hinted at by Trump himself, who claimed Musk was giving him $45 million a month. However, Musk has clarified that his support comes at a lower level.

The filing with the Federal Election Commission revealed that Musk was the only donor to the super PAC during this period, although earlier filings showed donations from associates of Musk. The super PAC had $4 million in cash on hand as of September 30, after spending heavily in the third quarter. Musk has also given smaller amounts to other Republican committees this year, such as the California Republican Party and the National Republican Congressional Committee. His contributions to pro-Trump efforts are among the largest this year, rivaling those of other big donors like Miriam Adelson, who gave $95 million in the third quarter.
