Elon Musk MIA: Court Hearing for Voter Giveaways Moves to Federal Court

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, was a no-show for a court hearing about his million-dollar daily voter giveaways. The hearing, originally set for Pennsylvania state court, faced a sudden change when Musk requested to move the case to federal court just hours before the scheduled time. This shift was aimed at delaying the appearance ordered by a state judge. The Philadelphia District Attorney, Larry Krasner, had filed a lawsuit arguing that Musk's giveaways violated Pennsylvania laws by acting like an illegal lottery. The case involved a pro-Trump political action committee, America PAC, which Musk supported. This PAC had been distributing million-dollar checks daily to registered voters in key states who backed specific political petitions.

Despite warnings from the Department of Justice about potential violations of federal rules, the PAC continued its activities. As of now, it has made 11 such payments. The urgency of the court proceedings rose after Krasner noted security concerns following threats he received, leading to an earlier hearing date. John Summers, a lawyer for Krasner, confirmed Musk's absence and noted that federal law halts state court actions once removal to federal court is initiated. This move could significantly affect the future of the giveaways as the election approaches. Krasner's office still needs to comment on whether Musk's federal court move will influence the promotional giveaways.
