Elon Musk Backs German Far-Right Party

Billionaire Elon Musk has stepped into German politics by endorsing a far-right political party, known as the Alternative for Germany (AfD). This move comes amidst the recent collapse of the German government. Musk, known for his supportive stance towards former U. S. President Donald Trump, posted his endorsement on a social media platform, sharing a video from a far-right activist, Naomi Seibt. The AfD has been gaining popularity due to its populist and anti-immigration policies, often summarized as "Germany first. " However, the party has also faced criticism for resurrecting Nazi-era ideologies and slogans. A recent court decision allowed Germany’s domestic intelligence agency to continue monitoring the party due to its alleged threat to democracy. Musk's endorsement sparked reactions from both supporters and critics. The lead candidate of the party in eastern Germany, Björn Höcke, was convicted earlier this year for violating laws against using Nazi slogans in public. Despite this, the party won a significant victory in a recent state election, becoming the first far-right party to do so since the Nazi era. However, major political parties in Germany have stated they won't form a coalition with the AfD.

This isn't Musk's first foray into German politics. Earlier this year, he showed support for the AfD in a social media post and criticized German Chancellor Olaf Scholz after his coalition government collapsed. Other figures in German politics also weighed in on Musk's endorsement. Alice Weidel, the leader of the AfD, thanked Musk for his support, while Christian Lindner, leader of the Free Democratic Party, urged caution. Lindner warned that while controlling migration is important, the AfD stands against freedom and business, and is labeled as a far-right extremist party. Musk has previously supported far-right causes, including anti-immigration riots in the UK. He has also been linked to potential funding for far-right British politician Nigel Farage's party.
