Elden Ring Nightreign: A New Twist on the Soulsborne Formula
Wednesday, February 12, 2025
The beta test has received glowing reviews. Ed Nightingale from Eurogamer describes Nightreign as a "delectable hit of Elden Ring in a repeatable microcosm. " He praises the game's difficulty, leveling system, boss battles, and sense of discovery, all packed into a high-speed challenge. Austen Goslin from Polygon also shares similar sentiments, noting that Nightreign feels like a frantic PvE battle royale that stays true to the Soulslike genre while offering something entirely new. He suggests that Nightreign is more of a love letter to existing Souls fans rather than an open invitation to new players.
Nightreign stands out from its predecessor, Elden Ring, with faster-paced combat and streamlined progression. Leveling up is quicker, Sites of Grace heal automatically, and there's no fall damage. Relics provide extra stat bonuses that persist between runs, ensuring that not all progress is lost. With eight character classes, players have plenty of room to develop custom strategies and replay the content endlessly, much like a classic arcade game.
The beta test is a great opportunity to get a hands-on feel for the game. It's clear that Nightreign offers a fresh take on the Soulsborne formula, blending familiar elements with new mechanics to create a unique gaming experience.
