Newzoo's latest report on the gaming industry has unveiled some unexpected results, particularly in the realm of PC and console Monthly Active Users (MAU) and Revenue Rankings.

The report reveals that multiplayer games have outperformed single-player games across the board, with EA Sports College Football 25 taking the top spot on both PlayStation and Xbox in July. Despite mixed reviews, The First Descendant has also done surprisingly well, with a significant 10 million player count in its first week.

Meanwhile, Zenless Zone Zero, developed by miHoYo, has not held up well on other consoles than the PlayStation, entering the PlayStation rankings at #11.  The report suggests that the success of multiplayer games this year can be attributed to the lack of AAA single-player games, with most of the potential big-hitters slated for release in Q4 of 2024. However, Nintendo World Champions: NES Edition, a single Nintendo Switch game, has made it to #17 in the top 20 revenue ranking overall.
