Don't Hold Your Breath for a Cheaper Galaxy Z Fold
Seoul, South KoreaTuesday, October 22, 2024
Samsung once led the global foldable smartphone market but has since slipped to second place behind Huawei. Sales of Samsung's foldable smartphones have plateaued over the past few years. To boost sales, Samsung could either create killer apps optimized for foldable phones or release cheaper foldable devices. So far, they've failed to achieve either goal.
Competitors like Honor, Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo are producing thinner, lighter foldable smartphones with superior camera hardware. To justify the price of the Galaxy Z Fold, Samsung needs to enhance its engineering and add better features.
Rumors suggest Samsung might release a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip phone next year, along with a Galaxy Z Fold device and their first dual-fold smartphone. Whether they succeed remains to be seen. If not, they risk losing ground in the foldable smartphone market they helped pioneer.
