Disney Shakes Up Jobs as New CEO Cuts 1, 000 Roles

USA, BurbankSaturday, April 11, 2026

A fresh chief executive has taken the helm at Disney and is already making tough choices.

The company plans to remove up to 1,000 positions in the next few weeks, mainly from a recently merged marketing team.

This move comes as Disney adjusts to slimmer earnings from its streaming services, which now bring in less money than the old TV networks did.

Earlier this year, Disney combined three separate marketing groups—entertainment, experiences, and sports—under one leader. The effort, called Project Imagine, aims to cut costs and boost teamwork.

The layoffs are part of a longer trend: since the former CEO returned in 2022, Disney has cut more than 8,000 jobs.

At the close of fiscal year 2025, the company employed about 231,000 people.

Consultants from Bain & Co. are helping Disney plan its budget cuts.
