Discovering Wine's Footprint in Urine: A Metabolomic Study
La Rioja, SpainSaturday, December 28, 2024
The participants were split into three groups: heavy wine drinkers, moderate drinkers, and teetotalers. Researchers found some interesting compounds in the urine of regular wine drinkers that weren't present in the samples of non-drinkers. They also spotted a wide range of phenol metabolites, which are like the wine's by-products, particularly high in wine drinkers' urine.
What's unique about this study? They didn't play with the volunteers’ diets. The participants could live their regular lives, drink their usual wine, and eat their favorite food. This real-life approach helped uncover biomarkers directly linked to everyday wine consumption habits.
