Discovering Saccocalyx satureioides: A Powerhouse Plant in Algeria

Saccocalyx satureioides, a plant native to Algeria, has been studied for its health benefits. Researchers found that the plant's extracts contain high levels of polyphenols, ranging from 170. 47 to 285. 56 micrograms of gallic acid equivalents (GAEs) per milligram of extract. It also showed strong antioxidant activity, with an average IC50 value of 14. 68 micrograms per milliliter in the DPPH test and 21. 08 micrograms per milliliter in the β-carotene test. The essential oil and methanolic extracts from the plant's aerial parts and roots were tested against various bacteria and molds. The essential oil demonstrated significant antimicrobial effects, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 1. 25 microL per milliliter for most bacterial strains. However, it was less effective against E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa.
