Long before Grant Hill set his sights on a piece of the WNBA, he built an impressive sports portfolio. This includes being part of the Atlanta Hawks Board, owning stakes in MLS Orlando City SC and the NWSL Pride. In 2017, Hill failed to buy Atlanta Dream, but he did not give up. This quest now was to bring WNBA back to the city where the former Detroit Shock were once champions.

The Shock won WNBA championships throughout its former reign in Detroit, before ultimately being bought and relocated. It is a dream that could transform into a promising reality as the city brings back a WNBA franchise.  This time, Chris Webber and Grant Hill,  are getting back into the game they are passionate about and placing bids to establish ownership.

The deal is quite notable, as Hill is not just investing in Detroit sports; he is tapping into his roots. He started playing in the Detroit Pistons and with that experience he wants to help build something he can actually call his own. Grant Hill wants to help build a team that he, Webber and fellow investors will call their own.

After leaving his athletic career, Hill co-owners at one of the biggest teams in sports. The Atlanta Hawks with basketball legends Magic Johnson and Webber in terms of development and finance. Hill aims to prove his mettle by making WNBA dreams into a reality.

This venture into the WNBA is nothing like his involvement in the Atlanta Hawks. He is also looking to compete with Magic Johnson, who has stakes in five major sporting franchises.

In the sport's landscape, Hill's efforts are a noteworthy move. Hopefully, he gets a chance to serve as the Managing Director of USA Basketball.  This time in the WNBA.

Just as Hill looks to close the gap with Magic Johnson’s sports ownership legacy in the realm of sports investment, Webber offers legendary leadership and Hill will be developing his skillset as he continues to invest in sports.

His journey doesn’t stop here. He is investing in sports to help young athletes.
