A Denver sports bar, El Mecca, is under scrutiny as the city considers revoking its license due to suspected prostitution and other illegal activities.

The Investigation Begins

In October 2024, the Denver Police Department received a tip about potential prostitution, illegal liquor sales, and drug dealing at the bar. An undercover officer was sent in to investigate.

The officer observed young women working for the bar, offering "special services" to male customers. These women would leave with customers and return later, receiving payment from the bar manager.

Uncovering the Scams

The investigation revealed a scheme where women charged $20 for a beer and their company—far above the regular price. Additionally, the undercover officer learned of another scam where women resold liquor to customers inside the bar.

One woman was arrested after offering $500 for sex. She claimed to work at the bar but insisted the owners were unaware of the prostitution.

The Bar's Response

The bar's manager, Manuel Mercado Ibarra, has not responded to requests for comment.

The City's Decision

The city has ordered a hearing to determine if the bar can retain its license. If found guilty, El Mecca could lose its license permanently, highlighting the importance of businesses operating legally and ethically.
