Danger in Donetsk: Drone Strike Hits Workers

Donetsk, Ukraine, Vuhlehirsk,Friday, May 29, 2026
Denis Pushilin, the head of Russia‑installed Donetsk region, shared news on Telegram that a Ukrainian drone attack claimed three lives and injured another in the town of Vuhlehirsk, north of Donetsk. The victims were part of a water‑repair crew traveling in a car when the drones struck. Pushilin also mentioned four more injuries from separate incidents across Russian‑controlled areas. The report came as Russia keeps urging Ukraine to relinquish its hold on parts of Donetsk, promising continued fighting until full control is achieved. Ukraine has firmly declined this demand. Earlier in March, Pushilin said Ukrainian forces still controlled about 17 % of the region. Despite Russia’s slow push into Donetsk, Ukrainian officials claim they have regained territory and are now in a stronger position along the 1, 200‑km front.
In another development, Russia’s Defence Ministry announced that its troops had taken the village of Novovasylivka in Kharkiv, aiming to create a buffer zone on its border. Meanwhile, in Volgograd, regional governor Andrei Bocharov reported that anti‑aircraft units were countering a large drone attack, which hit an apartment building and targeted energy infrastructure, though no casualties were recorded. On the Ukrainian side, Acting Governor Yegor Kovalchuk of Bryansk region said a drone strike on a village killed one person, according to his Telegram message. The situation remains volatile, with both sides claiming successes and suffering losses in a conflict that continues to affect civilian life.
