Crypto Bakkt and Trump's Social Media Firm: A Potential Deal

Everyone's talking about Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) now that news has spread about their talk to buy Bakkt, a crypto trading platform previously led by Senator Kelly Loeffler, a staunch Trump supporter. The valuation keeps everyone guessing, but Bakkt's shares sure got a boost, rising over 162% in just one day. Bakkt's not new to struggles, with its crypto custody business making losses of $27, 000 from revenue of $328, 000 in just a few months. That part might not be included in the deal, but it's still a big step for TMTG into the crypto world.

Before becoming Bakkt's CEO, Loeffler was known for her marketing roles and her husband running Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the owner of the New York Stock Exchange. Trump's choice of her to co-chair his inaugural committee shows their close ties. Trump's social media company, TMTG, owns Truth Social and has had its own share of ups and downs, with a net loss of $19 million reported just last month, despite having a market cap of around $6 billion. Truth Social's daily users are far behind Elon Musk’s X. The deal could revive hopes in TMTG turning profits and boosting Biden’s administration. But with shares soaring and then failing, no one's quite sure what to expect next.
