Property Crimes See Significant Decline

In 2025, the Santa Clarita Valley experienced a notable decrease in property crimes, dropping by over 19%. This positive trend is a relief for residents.

Larceny Thefts Drop Significantly

  • Larceny thefts saw the biggest drop, falling by almost 14%.
  • These crimes include shoplifting and pickpocketing, classified as Part-I offenses by the FBI.

Other Property Crimes Improve

  • Store thefts, home burglaries, and stolen vehicles all saw a decrease.
  • Burglaries dropped by nearly 23%, from 461 in the first three quarters of 2024 to 356 in 2025.
  • Larceny reports fell by 231 in the city and 51 in unincorporated county areas.
  • Grand theft auto reports decreased by 5% countywide and by almost 8.5% in the SCV.

Violent Crimes: A Concerning Increase

While property crimes improved, violent crimes saw an 8.78% increase, raising concerns.

Sexual Assaults Surge

  • Sexual assaults saw a significant rise, with 56 reports so far in 2025 compared to 35 in 2024.
  • This represents a more than 150% jump, a trend also seen across the county.

Murders Rise

  • Murders ticked up, with two homicides reported before October.
  • One involved a college student in Newhall.
  • Another involved an 80-year-old woman, with her 81-year-old husband arrested for the crime.
  • There were three murders in all of 2024.

Other Violent Crimes

  • Robberies remained the same, with 83 incidents reported for both years.
  • Aggravated assaults dipped slightly by less than 3%.
  • Total violent crime reports increased from 319 (January to September 2024) to 347 over the same period in 2025.
