Crime Drops in New York, Then a Shocking Murder

The suspect, wearing a mask, fired at Thompson and then ran away. The police think the attack was planned, as the suspect was waiting for Thompson.

The new NYPD commissioner, Jessica Tisch, praised the department's efforts to reduce crime just a day before this tragic event. She said the goal was not only to keep New Yorkers safe but also to make them feel safe.
