COVID and Other Infections: Trouble in the Middle East
Middle EastWednesday, December 18, 2024
When bacteria were involved, sadly, the death rates were higher—especially for infections caught in the community (10. 0%-42. 9%) and hospitals (51. 5%-66%), compared to those without additional infections (10. 5%-21. 7%). Fungal infections made things even worse, and people with mucormycosis had a 66. 7% chance of dying. Viral coinfections, however, had mixed results. Influenza A and adenovirus seemed to make COVID-19 worse in some cases.
All this shows that getting vaccinated against preventable diseases caused by these bacteria, fungi, and viruses is super important, especially for people at higher risk.
