Could Mushrooms Trigger Multiple Sclerosis?
GLOBALWednesday, January 15, 2025
Take dimethyl fumarate (DMF), once a fungicide, now used to lessen MS symptoms. We’re still figuring out how it works in MS. Also, the low MS risk in kids and its link to herpes simplex type 2 might point to genital fungi as a trigger. While EBV and other infections are strong suspects, fungi haven't been heavily studied yet. But many signs point to fungi being a possible culprit.
Here’s the thing: future research should look into the gut microbiome and fungal infections to better understand MS risks. Similarly, testing other fungicides besides DMF could possibly help manage MS symptoms. It’s all about exploring new paths and keeping an open mind, right?
