The new café inside the Portland Art Museum, Coquelico, invites visitors to pause and enjoy a relaxed meal in an artistic setting. Created by Kaie Wellman and Kevin de Garmo of Providore Fine Foods, the space blends local ingredients with a menu that feels both familiar and inventive.
Menu Highlights
- Crisp salads with tarragon vinaigrette
- Focaccia‑turned “pizza bianca” with mortadella and stracciatella
- Freshly baked goods—not meant to outshine Portland’s best bakeries, but satisfying for coffee lovers and art enthusiasts alike
- Prosciutto‑cotto crepe folded into a savory mille‑feuille, paired with bitter greens
- Roasted beet salad with fromage blanc
Prices range from $6 for pastries to $14 for the prosciutto crepe and $15 for sandwiches.
Artistic Inspiration
Coquelico’s name echoes the museum’s new Rothko Pavilion, honoring artist Mark Rothko who once studied there. The café pays tribute to his work with a cake that mirrors his color‑field paintings, offering guests a sweet visual and culinary experience.
Coffee & Service
Coffee is supplied by Spella, delivering solid espresso drinks that improve with each visit. The café has shifted from counter service to full service, adding a host stand to manage flow during busy nights like First Thursdays.
Accessibility & Atmosphere
Located on the museum’s main floor, Coquelico offers easy entry and accessible tables. The atmosphere encourages lingering—whether after a museum tour or simply to meet friends for coffee and cake in downtown Portland.
Enjoy your meal, sip a cappuccino or glass of wine, and let the art around you inspire your palate.
