Cop Who Shot Unarmed Man Found Guilty

A jury found a former police officer guilty of murder for shooting a Black man who was holding a cellphone and keys. The officer, Adam Coy, claimed he thought the man, Andre Hill, had a gun. But the jury didn't buy it. They saw the body cam footage showing Hill with a phone, and no threat. Coy's lawyers said he feared for his life, but the jury disagreed. He might spend 15 years in prison. The shooting happened in 2020, and it took years for justice.

Hill's family got a $10 million settlement, the biggest in Columbus history. The city also passed a law making cops give immediate medical help to injured suspects. The police union leader was shocked by the verdict, saying cops could now go to prison for split-second decisions. But civil rights lawyers said it's a clear message: cops aren't above the law.
