Community Music Day Lights Up Reading

Reading, Pennsylvania, USASunday, July 12, 2026

A lively gathering on Saturday turned the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts into a hub of music, art, and family fun. The event marked the first time the Berks Summer Fest moved from a stadium to downtown Reading, taking advantage of both indoor and outdoor spaces. The festival’s organizers—Berks Arts Council and GoggleWorks—celebrated a partnership that blends the arts center’s venue with the council’s talent‑booking experience.

Headliners and Local Talent

The program stayed true to last year’s new focus on local performers. Headliners such as Bennie Sims & The Groovemasters, Caya Sol Reggae Band, and Flamin’ Dick & The Hot Rods drew crowds from across the county. A special highlight was a jazz set by the Dexter Sales Quartet, led by teenage drummer Dexter Sales and featuring young musicians Reid Justeson, Esteban Ruiz, and Julian Lee.

Family‑Friendly Activities

While the music attracted many, families were drawn by a full schedule of activities. Children enjoyed face painting—one 7‑year‑old turned into a superhero—and engaged in crafts, lawn games, and a magician’s show. A mother from New Jersey discovered the arts center for the first time, praising its exhibits and the surprise of a free concert.

Food and Community Giving

The venue’s new Thorn Alley Kitchen supplied food throughout the day, and attendees were invited to donate nonperishable items for a local food bank. The festival’s goal was simple: bring the community together around music and creativity, offering a free event that gives back to residents.
