Community Foundation Gives $103K to 17 Local Groups

The Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley distributed $103,350 to 17 nonprofits during its 2026 awards luncheon. The funds will support projects focused on:

  • Early learning
  • Job training
  • Mental health care
  • Food safety
  • Reading programs

All initiatives will benefit residents of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties.

Additional Funding

  • $40,000 earmarked for community projects
  • Three new charitable funds created:
  • Glenn E. Koets Music Scholarship Fund
  • Goldstar Resources and Community Engagement Foundation Fund
  • Army of Boomers Fund

Leadership Highlights

  • Executive Director praised the community’s growth and teamwork, noting that every donation, partnership, and act of kindness propels progress.
  • Andy Hamilton elected to the board of directors.
  • Retiring member Jake Lee honored for nine years on the board, including two terms as chair.

Past Initiatives

  • Nonprofit Coffee Talks and a Board Bootcamp strengthened local nonprofit leadership.
  • Launch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Iroquois County and expansion to Kankakee County with United Way; now 1,450+ children receive books monthly.

Crisis Response

After the March 10 tornado and other severe storms, the Foundation led a recovery group named COAD, coordinating with government, businesses, volunteers, and nonprofits to rebuild the region. The director highlighted community solidarity during this crisis.
