Colors That Fly Over Denver
Denver’s downtown is set to become a living canvas of motion and color. The “Skynets Over Downtown” project, a collaboration between Poetic Kinetics and Colorado artist Patrick Shearn, will launch a series of wind‑reactive sculptures that drift above the city’s streets.
Key Highlights
• Sun Splash – Launching June 19 above the fountain at Union Station, staying until early July.
• Quaking Gold – Debuting June 25 over Glenarm Plaza during a one‑day street closure.
• Skyline Drift – Expected to finish mid‑July at Skyline Park on 17th Street.
The installations will dance in real time, shifting and swaying with the wind to create a constantly evolving visual spectacle. They will remain on display until October, punctuated by special events throughout the summer.
The Denver Department of Transportation and Denver Arts & Venues are steering the effort, coordinating with multiple agencies. The total investment is $625,000, paid directly to Poetic Kinetics.
Local officials anticipate that the kinetic artworks will draw both residents and tourists, transforming downtown into a must‑visit destination. The success of Shearn’s prior installation in Green Mountain Falls—over 100,000 visitors and a third‑plus boost to sales tax revenue—underscored the potential impact of this new venture.
