Cold Front Brings Warmth, Fog and Fire Warnings

Southeast LouisianaSouth Mississippi, USAFriday, March 27, 2026
The calm weather we’ve been enjoying is about to change. A chilly front will bring a cool breeze this weekend, but it also creates conditions that can let fires spread fast. Rain is expected to increase next week. A dense fog advisory covers parts of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi until 9 a. m. Friday. Visibility could drop to less than a quarter mile, so drivers should be extra careful, especially near marsh fires where fog can become very thick. From Saturday morning to evening a fire‑weather watch is in effect for the same area. Dry air, 10–15 mph winds from the northwest and humidity as low as 20–25 percent set the stage for quick wildfire growth. People should avoid any open flames and check local burn‑ban rules.
Today’s high will reach the upper 80s, close to record levels. After that, a cold front will arrive Friday night and bring cooler temperatures, with lows in the mid‑50s. The front won’t bring much rain but will lower temperatures to typical spring values. Saturday’s air will be drier and windier, with humidity falling and breezes blowing. This mix heightens fire risk, so outdoor sparks should be avoided. The day will still look bright, with comfortable highs in the mid‑70s. On Sunday warmer and moister air will move back in. A light shower could happen, but most of the afternoon should stay partly sunny, with temperatures climbing to the upper 70s and low 80s. The coming week will see more scattered showers and possible thunderstorms each day, but they are likely to be brief. The rain totals will stay light, so any moisture is a welcome relief for lawns. Temperatures will stay above average in the low 80s, with mild mornings around the low 60s.
