In a chilling display of intimidation, the notorious Casamonica crime family of Rome left a black coffin outside the home of anti-mafia activist Tiziana Ronzio. As the president of the Toripiubella anti-mafia group, Ronzio has been a thorn in the side of the Casamonicas, denouncing their criminal activities and advocating for justice. The coffin, discovered on a Sunday, was initially dismissed by Ronzio as a mere piece of furniture, but she soon realized it was a sinister threat intended to disrupt her group's efforts.

The Casamonica family, known for their mafia-style operations, amassed an estimated 90 million euros ($101 million) through extortion, racketeering, usury, and drug trafficking. Their influence extends to approximately 1,000 members, and they have been linked to numerous murder cases. Despite their criminal status, the group was allowed to hold a lavish public funeral for their patriarch, Vittorio Casamonica, in 2015, complete with a horse-drawn carriage and a helicopter scattering rose petals. 

Ronzio, undeterred by the threat, vowed to continue her work, stating, 'These are stupid gestures which make us even more angry and want to fight.' Rome's mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, expressed solidarity with Ronzio, pledging the city's support for her commitment to legality and justice. Meanwhile, Rome's councilor for heritage and housing policies, Tobia Zevi, praised Ronzio's courage and perseverance, asserting that her work would not be diminished by fear.

As the investigation into the coffin threat unfolds, Ronzio's group, Toripiubella, has decided not to issue a public statement. Fingerprints are currently being examined from the coffin, and police are working diligently to uncover the individuals responsible for this unsettling act of intimidation.
