Climate Talks in Azerbaijan: More Frustration Than Action
Baku, AzerbaijanSunday, November 24, 2024
Many world leaders, including those from big polluters like the U. S. and China, skipped the conference. This didn't help create a sense of urgency, especially with the Taliban attending for the first time and the hot topic of Trump's climate stance. Some countries most affected by climate change, like Pacific Island nations, almost boycotted the conference because they felt unfairly treated.
Experts warned that time is running out, and we need new ways to tackle climate change. The cost of waiting is high, and some countries, like Afghanistan, already face severe climate threats. But with politics and disagreements taking center stage at COP29, real progress seemed far away.
