Cincinnati Surges Past Rockies in Hot Weather

The Reds exploded early, turning a hot day into an electrifying showdown.
In the first inning, Nathaniel Lowe ripped a three‑run homer, giving Cincinnati an instant 3–0 lead.
Soon after, Tyler Stephenson followed with a two‑run shot, pushing the score to 5–0 early on.

Stephenson proved he can hit deep—this was his third career game with two home runs, both against Colorado. He also knocked a double and helped the Reds keep a lead that never slipped away.

Meanwhile, catcher Hunter Greene showed his arm by striking out seven batters over six innings, keeping the Rockies from mounting a comeback.

Colorado’s offense tried to answer back. Hunter Goodman hit three home runs—two off Greene and one off reliever Sam Moll—making him the first Rockies player to hit a three‑home‑run game twice in one season. Despite Goodman's power, the Reds’ defense and pitching held them down.

Colorado did manage a late rally. In the ninth inning, Willi Castro hit a solo homer to cut the deficit to 8–5. However, Reds’ pitcher Emilio Pagán fanned two hitters and induced a ground out from Edouard Julien, sealing the win for Cincinnati. The victory gives the Reds two wins in a three‑game series against Colorado.

Looking ahead, Cincinnati will travel to Seattle for a three‑game set starting Monday. Their new left‑hander, Andrew Abbott, is slated to start the opener. Colorado will face Washington next, with lefty Kyle Freeland taking the mound for their opening game.
