Choosing Family Over Fame: A Golfer's Big Decision
Laurie Canter, a professional golfer, made a surprising decision that has sparked discussions in the golf world. Despite securing a spot on the prestigious PGA Tour, he chose to return to LIV Golf. The reason? It's all about his lifestyle and family.
A Career Crossroads
At 36 years old, Canter had an impressive season, finishing seventh in the Race to Dubai. This achievement earned him one of the 10 coveted spots on the PGA Tour. However, the rigorous schedule of the PGA Tour didn't align with his personal plans.
Prioritizing Family
Canter has two young daughters, aged 1 and 3. The thought of traveling to America for 30 weeks a year was not practical for him. He wants to be present for his family, and the PGA Tour's demanding schedule made that difficult.
Success in Europe
Canter has found success on the DP World Tour, winning the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship in February. This was his second win on the tour. He plans to continue playing in Europe, even if it means facing fines for participating in LIV events.
LIV Golf: A Better Fit
Canter joined LIV Golf in 2022 and played for Majesticks GC. He later served as a reserve before rejoining Majesticks GC permanently, replacing Henrik Stenson. He believes that LIV Golf has helped him become a better player.
Performance and Earnings
In 20 LIV tournaments, Canter has yet to finish in the top 10, but he has achieved eight top-20 finishes. He has earned $5.6 million in the Saudi-backed league. For Canter, it's not just about the money; it's about the lifestyle and being with his family.
