Chongqing’s New Mixed‑Use Hub Turns Mountains Into Market
Chongqing, ChinaMonday, July 20, 2026
The site sits in Chongqing’s rugged terrain, so the design responds to the city’s steep streets and scenic vistas. Instead of a straight‑forward mall layout, the complex follows the natural contours, turning slopes into paths and terraces. This approach keeps everyday life at its core while inviting visitors to explore the local culture.
The A4X Art Center inside the complex offers gallery space and performance rooms, making art a central part of daily life. Lighting is handled by Brandston Partnership, and structural support comes from XinY Structural Consultants. A dedicated floodlighting team, HdA, will illuminate the park after dark.
Overall, the project aims to create a long‑lasting community space that reflects Chongqing’s identity. By integrating commerce, culture and nature, it hopes to become a lasting landmark rather than just another shopping centre.
